ok, this is gross
Just had my first business school interview. I thought it went pretty well. I talked ok, I only fumbled with words a few times. Then near the end came trouble. My right armpit began to itch, and without thinking, I scratch it. Oops.
Anyway, I went to the World MBA Tour last night. It was ok, pretty much like last year, but this time I paid more attention. I have to say Columbia is really irritating me. They don't seem to care at all about how they market themselves to prospectives. Most of the schools had an admissions representative and a few recent alums. Columbia sends a graduate from 1974 and his wife. Uhh...ok. So what could I possibly talk to him about? What do you do now? Did you like Columbia? How was it in 1974? Geez, I wasn't even born yet. This on top of the poor presentation at the MBA Tour has given me a pretty bad impression of them. But I guess I can't blame the entire school for that. I'm sure the academics are excellent, and they probably figured they'll always have more than enough applicants so why bother working hard to recruit?
After the World MBA Tour, I went to the Prudential food court for dinner. I talked with the guy in front of me at Sarku Japan who is also applying to b-school. So I invite myself to sit with him and his roommate. I have to say, they were pretty white. Their names were Kirk and Brent. We talked about applications and work and at the end, I was like, "Nice meeting you. Bye." I like random meetings like that. No strings attached, just nice conversation.

Where was the World MBA Tour held? Was it in Boston? I bet you Columbia gets more than enough applications from NYC alone.
