Humid as Hell
This weekend was totally brutal, weather-wise. Super humid, sweltering hot and thunderstormy. On Friday night, I hung out with OB, not really doing much. He had to wake up at 5AM for an early flight to Philly for a wedding. I did finish reading "The Wizard of Oz" though. It's very different from the movie, and I think Wicked the Musical wouldn't have worked if it was based on the book instead of the movie. I used to listen to the book on tape when I was little (like 5-7 years old), and it was cool remembering about the things like the field mice and the winged monkeys crown.
Anyway, on Saturday, I saw Julie for a couple hours before she went on vacation with her family. We were originally going to walk around, but the weather...you know. So we went to Arsenal Mall. On Saturday night I hung out with people from Watson Wyatt, where I used to work. Vidur is leaving to go work for the New York office, so we were going to party the night away to wish him well in style. I got to Vidur's at 10 for the pre-party, and it took us a while to get motivated to go out. Some people left, but we had about 10 people to go clubbing. It was fun going dancing, I hadn't done it in a long time. But the club had no A/C, nor windows. I was constantly downing free ice water and wiping myself off with napkins. After, we went back to Vidur and hung out and chatted until the wee hours of the morning. I realized that I enjoyed hanging out with Wyatt people, and I missed having a lot of people my age around, but I'm glad I don't work with them anymore. I think it all goes back to my mentality of keeping work and social life separate, but since I don't work with them anymore, I could loosen up.
I barely got any sleep on Saturday night, but I went to church on Sunday. I had a headache from lack of sleep (and probably dehydration from sweating so much on Saturday), but I got myself out of bed. I figure it's my fault I was up so late on Saturday and being tired from having a good time is not a good excuse to miss church. But being that tired was so worth it, I had such a blast! I took a couple naps on Sunday during the day to make up sleep. Sunday afternoon, I already had plans to hang out with Carol, so after nap #1, we met up for lunch. It was grossly humid and hot outside, so we tossed the original plan of walking along Newbury. Instead we went candlepin bowling. It was Carol's first time, but I think she enjoyed it. The guy at the bowling alley also figured we were new at this (Carol and I were both wearing skirts), so he taught us how to keep score, and he even came to give us pointers. I like candlepin bowling, but I think I still like 10 pin better. I mean, when I think of bowling, I think of sticking my fingers in the three holes or hauling around a ball that's too heavy for me (or a light 7 pound pink ball).
