Soon to be Mrs. Usmen
Last Saturday, OB and I headed to the Office of the City Clerk to apply for a marriage license. I can't believe the wedding is almost here. The office was full of young couples. OB and I were wondering if the people who worked there liked their jobs because they deal with happy subject matter, or are they annoyed by all the excited happy people. Generally I'm pretty annoyed by all the false excitement by the wedding vendors.
Anyway, we were downtown for the Turkish Festival, which I've been waiting for anxiously for a year. When I went to last year's festival (which also happened to be the evening OB proposed), I waited in line for this special ice cream made from orchid roots. And they ran out. This year I went for two, and oh yes, it was just as special as I hyped it up to be in my head. They top it with pistachios too.
Then on Sunday, OB and I went hiking in the Sag Harbor something or other. It was a beautiful day, around 70 degrees, and sunny. We hiked around 3 hours, and we were getting tired just as we were finishing. To celebrate, we went to a GNR restaurant called Chuck's Southern. It was ehh, ok. The amount of gravy they gave me on my chicken fried chicken was good, but they also served frozen green beans. This weekend we are going back to Katy'd Dumpling House, which makes hand drawn noodles. We went there the last time we went hiking, and it was oh so good.
When we got back to the city, OB dropped me off downtown to meet Marjorie for Mary Poppins. I had an extra half hour, so I headed over to TJ Maxx. I found a beautiful Kentucky Derby type hat for my bridal shower. Karen's bridal shower theme is tea party, and we're dressing up in flower dresses and big hats. I had a big bag to carry to Mary Poppins, but it was ok. The show was great! It was an extravaganza with all the set changes and the huge cast. It looks like a lot of money went into making the show. I thought that I wouldn't like Mary because Julie Andrews is so iconic, but this Mary had a beautiful singing voice. I recommend it.
