My first hostel

It's my last night in Costa Rica. I had to return back to the states earlier than everyone else to deal with my apartment while I'm studying abroad next month, so I'm in San Jose alone staying in my very first hostel. It's pretty nice actually, was pleasantly surprised. I'm staying in a room with 2 other strangers kinda like summer camp. There's a pool, a decent restaurant, pool tables, and unlimited internet..all behind a sketchy gated entrance. Everyone else headed to Tamarindo, which is supposed to be beautiful.

I had a very exciting trip. The pregnant cow was definitely the highlight sight. Ziplining is still the highlight activity. Didn't scream because for my first two ziplines, the instructor held me and we went together. It wasn't so scary then. Yesterday was also pretty interesting. We saw lots of prostitutes on the street. We wanted to stay in a semi-nice hotel so our stuff would be safe. Little did we know that prostitutes and many greasy guys used the same hotel for their business. Eww. There was also a 24 hour casino, which was pretty empty. Ami and I went down for 5 minutes to gamble. We played 3 hands of blackjack and won! I doubled down on my last hand ($10 bet) and felt my heart beat fast. That's when I knew I had to stop. We won, and then I jet.

Today I spent the morning with the others, and then I headed to my hostel, Hostel Pangea. It's actually in a great location. I walked to the main shopping strip and looked at souvenirs. Mostly crap, so Í didn't buy anything. I started to regret not buying this handmade necklace I liked in Manuel Antonio. It was a wooden necklace with a laser cutout of a tree. It was unique, which is what I liked about it.

This trip has overall been great. Only thing I missed was meeting up with Nahir, but I'll probably catch her in Boston. So here's a summary of my trip:
M - overnight in San Jose
T - Arenal
W - Arenal whole day trip - hanging bridges, volcano hike, waterfall, and hot springs
Th - Monteverde. Saw a gray fox in the wild, which is supposedly rare. Took a night hike in the woods.
F - Monteverde. Ziplining.
S - Manuel Antonio - Beach
Sun - Manuel Antonio - ATVing. Then hike through the national park.
M - Drive all day. Visited coffee plantation. The coffee was excellent and cheap. and it turns out they source their coffee to Starbucks.
T - San Jose
W - HOME!

Ok, so there was a lot of hiking. Needless to say, my sneakers are real stinky. I was planning to toss them, but have found myself reluctant to do it. Afterall, my hiking boots were in the same condition and I somehow salvaged them. I'm excited to get home. The next few days will be very hectic and crazy, but I don't mind. I miss clean clothes.
