Great cake tradition
Hello from Paris! I've had one week of classes and some chances to explore Paris. The sale season just started, so I've also been shopping a lot. Last weekend was some kind of festive holiday. There are these pastries called galettes sold in bakeries. It's almond paste and kind of tastes like a Au Bon Pain almond croissant. Anyway, so a family buys one of these things, and the youngest crawls under the table and they turn the cake while the kid says stop and the pieces of the cake are distributed that way.
Then everyone eats and in one of the slices is a figurine that one poor or happy soul bites into. If you have the figurine in your slice you get to wear a paper gold crown (like the Burger King crowns) and you're king or queen.
