Pops
Last night I went to go see the Pops. I went with a friend and another couple. The concert was a tribute to Richard Rodgers conducted by Marvin Hamlisch. I was a little disappointed that they didn't play any Marvin Hamlisch music as I was expecting (He wrote A Chorus Line), but I still enjoyed the concert. I was happy that I recognized a lot of songs. There were two male and one female vocalist. I didn't like the female's voice, I wonder if it's because I'm harder on women. When she sang "Something Good" from The Sound of Music, it kinda ruined it for me because Julie Andrews just blows her away.
We sat downstairs at one of the tables where we could order food and drinks. I thought it'd be a good experience for people who've never done it before. I told the group I thought people liked the tables as a status thing: you know, people can imagine that they're just having a meal and a world class symphony orchestra is playing music just for them. Anyway, I think the whole Finger Lakes winetasting trip did me good. I built a taste for wine, so when the couple ordered a bottle of wine for the table, I enjoyed a glass.
Anyway, the grand finale was Stars and Stripes Forever, and the crowd went nuts: cheering and clapping as loud as they can to the beat of the music. I could barely hear the music over the clapping, but I guess it's cool that people are psyched for our country. When they lowered the flag, it was chaos. At the end of the piece, everyone gave a standing ovation. And I jokingly said, "Yay America!! F**k yeah!" (like the theme from Team America), but I think I said it a little too loud, and I'm blaming that one glass of wine for my lack of volume control.
